An aquarium is three jobs: find the fish a home, break the tank down wet-to-dry, and move a large glass box safely. Start with the livestock, never with the glass.
Rehome the fish first, then switch off and remove the heater, filter and lights. Drain the water into buckets or a drain, scoop out gravel and decor, and let the tank dry. Offer a sound tank for reuse; wrap a cracked one in blankets and cardboard and send it with a bulky collection.

Aquarium fish released into community lakes, ponds or waterways can die or harm local wildlife. Rehome them through a shop or another keeper instead.
Aquarium shops sometimes accept healthy fish, and local fish-keeping groups are usually the quickest route for a whole tank of livestock. Give people a list of species and sizes, and time the handover so the fish move straight from your tank to theirs rather than sitting in bags in a hot car.
Live plants, filter media and even the whole running set-up can go together to a keeper starting a new tank—mature filter media is genuinely useful to them. If you are moving within Dubai and keeping the fish, a shop can often hold them while the tank is in transit.
Once the tank is empty of livestock, unplug everything at the wall before touching the water. Remove the heater only after it has cooled for a while—a hot heater out of water can crack. Siphon the water into buckets and pour it down a toilet, sink or floor drain; old aquarium water also suits garden plants in a villa.
Scoop gravel or sand into strong bags and keep them small: wet substrate is surprisingly heavy. Rock and wood decor comes out next. Only when the tank is completely empty and dry should anyone try to move it.

Glass aquariums are held together by silicone seams, and they are strongest sitting flat on a level surface. Carry a larger tank with two people, one at each end, holding it from underneath rather than by the top rim. Protect the corners and the front panel with blankets and cardboard, and keep it upright in the lift.
Stands and cabinets often weigh more than the tank. Remove doors and shelves and treat the cabinet as a separate piece of furniture. A tank that has already cracked or leaked should be wrapped fully and labelled as broken glass so nobody lifts it expecting a sound box.
A clean, leak-free tank from a known brand, especially with a matching stand and working equipment, sells reasonably well to hobbyists. Bare tanks with scratches or old silicone sell slowly. Fill it with water in a safe spot for a day before listing—buyers will ask whether it has been leak-tested.
Plain gravel from a freshwater tank can be rinsed and used in plant pots or garden beds. Coloured, coated or marine substrate is better bagged as general waste, as it can contain salts or dyes you would not want in soil. Keep it out of storm drains either way.
Treat it as a specialist job. Corals and marine fish need an experienced keeper or shop to rehome them, and saltwater should not go onto garden plants. The equipment—skimmers, return pumps and lighting—often has good resale value within reef-keeping groups.
